Aha... I mentioned the Min a lot way back when, but since they've changed so much in my mind's eye. This is what I'm putting the pin on: a slightly-taller version of gnomes holding some of the basic qualities of a chibi, only it's their real anatomy.

Min profile:
These stubby humanoid creatures vastly outnumber any other populations on Nomi (ha! world name!), but so few appear in the sights of other species that it's hard to believe.
A Min averages about three feet in height, but some cultures have adapted to small cavernous environments that demand even shorter measures.
The dominant Min power in this day and age, as the other sentient species of this world have determined, is a certain "Bellith" empire settled in a scattered manner around the two large mountain ranges of Solzan, a remote semi-continent northwest of the rest of the mainland. Bellith Min are always a little shorter than three feet, but they are known to have extreme prowess with all-terrain vehicular technology. Their pyrotechnics are none too shabby, either. They've cooked a few unwary reconaissance units from the current human nation in Solzan.
Returning to the overview of the expansive Min race, it must be noted that Min never take kindly to those without the correct marking on their shoulder. When a suspicion arises between Min they must expose the marking. If they match, they're of the same culture.
Sometimes the enemy can forge the tattoo for themselves to undermine another power but the physical differences between the cultures are so different that it's usually a long shot.
If not killed by the constant strife in Nomi, Min have ridiculously long lifespans. The average died-of-natural-causes Min live for almost 500 years. This allows their kind to gather an unmatched wealth of knowledge about their world, and as such they rival the Nomine kingdom of Arcari in brains most if not all of the time.
Overall, the Min are tense creatures who actually face a good deal of oppression from the less-humanoid, 'hungrier' denizens of Nomi. They would stand on the brink of extinction...
...if they weren't so awesome.

Her father is still alive, but her brother, mother, and grandparents have all died to the beasts of the desert.

Not now. She stays within the walls of the tribe's city, but finally has the guts to go out when a hooded figure visits her.

Well, she saw her brother get owned by that Sal'Zunak.

Being there on the spot helping the fight when they saved the city from a charge of agitated Salas (the breed that a Sal'Zunak is derived from).
